THE OVERVIEW/THE QUICK-TAKE
Spread across four lovingly restored Regency-style townhouses in London’s Regency Quarter, the Kensington marries Victorian elegance with contemporary style in the Royal borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
The Kensington calls South Kensington, a well-heeled slice of the Royal borough of Kensington and Chelsea, home. It’s a short walk from the South Kensington tube and the lovely Kensington Gardens. The hotel is also easily accessible to top attractions, including Victoria and Albert Museum.
THE LOOK AND FEEL
Four beautiful period townhouses were oh so carefully restored and transformed into this 150-room boutique hotel. And tucked behind the white Regency-style façade is an incredibly warm and inviting property. In fact, the property feels more like a private manse: ground-level reception rooms are outfitted with antique furnishings and many have fireplaces; while rooms are residential in style with their high ceilings, rose vases, and furniture from George Smith and Julien Chichester. Mod cons include flat screen TVs, iPod docking stations, and Nespresso coffee makers.
THE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
South Kensington is an utterly delightful area. And the Kensington’s location in some of the district’s loveliest Regency-style townhouses only ups the charm factor.
An Inviting, Exclusive Feel
The hotel’s residential styling, grand Old World touches, inviting service, and warm feel (public spaces often feature fireplaces and cosy couches for lounging) makes the property feel more like a private club.
The aptly named Town House restaurant, located on the hotel’s ground floor, offers a menu focused on fresh, seasonal English dishes made with locally-sourced ingredients.
THE INSIDER’S TAKE
Town House Bar, with its wood-panelled walls, subtle lighting and smoky blue glass ceiling, provides a cosy, clubby ambience and an impressive menu of fine spirits and cocktails. It’s the perfect place for a nightcap. The hotel also has a spa treatment room with a selection of services for a more relaxing way to end your day.
